Deputy Prime Minister Tanczos Barna stated that Romania has not managed to resolve the VAT gap in the last 35 years and that it will not be resolved quickly. He criticized the minimum turnover tax (IMCA), considering it a burden on the economy that creates discrimination among companies. Barna proposed a gradual reduction of this tax, emphasizing that complete elimination cannot take place until 2026.
He also mentioned the need to stop the profit export by multinational companies. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that any changes to taxes must be carefully analyzed so as not to affect budget revenues, considering the agreements with the European Commission. Additionally, he discussed the challenges facing the automotive industry in Romania, highlighting the importance of support for research and development to maintain competitiveness in the market.
