According to Eurostat data, the average number of hours worked weekly by employees aged between 20 and 64 in the European Union was 35.9 hours in 2025, down from 36.9 hours in 2015.
The longest working weeks were recorded in Greece, with 39.6 hours, followed by Bulgaria and Poland, both with 38.7 hours, and Lithuania, with 38.4 hours. In contrast, the Netherlands had the shortest working week, at 31.9 hours, followed by Denmark and Germany, with 33.9 hours, and Austria, with 34 hours.
Romanian employees worked an average of 38.2 hours per week.
Regarding professions, employees in agriculture, forestry, and fishing had the longest working weeks, with 42 hours, followed by managers with 40.6 hours and military personnel with 39.4 hours. The shortest weeks were recorded in elementary occupations, with 31.8 hours, and in the service sector, with 34.5 hours.
