According to Eurostat data for the year 2025, Romania ranks last in the European Union in terms of estimated professional life duration, with an average of 32.7 years, nearly five years below the European average of 37.5 years. This statistic highlights significant differences compared to Western European countries and between genders.

Men in Romania have an estimated professional life duration of 36 years, while women have 29.1 years, both values being among the lowest in the EU. In comparison, the Netherlands has the longest duration, estimated at 44 years.

Eurostat emphasizes that this indicator does not reflect the retirement age, but estimates the period during which a 15-year-old is expected to participate in the labor market, either as an employee or as unemployed. This data provides a clear picture of the population's involvement in economic activities in each member state.
