The German giant Siemens has won the tender organized by the Railway Reform Authority (ARF) for the delivery of 12 hydrogen trains to Romania. The only bidder was the Siemens Mobility Association, which includes Siemens Mobility SRL, Siemens Mobility GmbH, and Siemens Mobility Austria GmbH.
The contract was awarded on April 15, and the purchase value ranges between 1,596,354,562 lei and 2,468,146,243 lei excluding VAT, depending on the duration of the related services, either 15 or 30 years. The trains will be used on non-electrified routes, in accordance with public service contracts. This tender had previously been missed three times due to a lack of compliant bids. Now, ARF will award the contracts to railway transport operators, in accordance with European and national legislation.
