In an increasingly tense international context, Romania has managed to borrow more cheaply, attracting 4.7 billion euros through its first eurobond issuance of 2026, just a few days before the outbreak of the conflict in the Middle East.

The Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, stated that the increased interest from investors allowed for lower costs compared to previous issuances.

For example, for a maturity of 7 years, the yield decreased from 5.29% in 2025 to 4.64% in 2026.

Additionally, borrowing costs in dollars decreased from 7.55% for 12 years in 2025 to 5.75% for 10 years in 2026. Nazare emphasized that nearly half of the external financing needs for 2026 have already been covered, allowing Romania to start the year from a solid financial position.
