Volkswagen is considering the possibility of selling the Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati as part of its “Future Plan 2030” restructuring plan. Audi, the division that manages the brand, confirms the assessment, but stresses that there is currently neither a decision nor an imminent sales process.

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner stated that the group is reassessing approximately 600 of the nearly 2,000 holdings it owns. The objective is to reduce the portfolio by approximately one third, based on the “necessity-to-own” principle, according to which only assets that are strategically, operationally, or legally essential are retained.

Volkswagen aims to raise up to 15 billion euros through the restructuring, funds intended for investments in electromobility, software, and reorganization. The plan calls for investments of around 135 billion euros between 2027 and 2031, reducing the workforce by approximately 50,000 employees and halving the number of models.

Ducati remains profitable, but its results have deteriorated. In 2025, the company reported revenue of 925 million euros and an operating profit of 52 million, compared with 91 million in 2024. Deliveries fell from approximately 54,500 to fewer than 51,000 motorcycles.

Ducati’s value is estimated at around 1.25 billion euros. The press reported interest from the Italian company Patritalia, but Volkswagen denied the existence of a concrete sales process. An alternative would be to grant it greater autonomy or sell a stake through the stock exchange.
