Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that next week there will be a meeting of the Tripartite Council to discuss the increase of the minimum wage. He emphasized that, in the context of capping salaries in the public sector, any change in the minimum wage can have effects on other salaries. Bolojan mentioned that, by mutual agreement in the coalition, it was decided to maintain the minimum wage at the same level, considering the current limitations.

He also explained that Romania has transposed a European directive that allows for the establishment and indexing of the minimum wage, but he emphasized that the economic impact of a potential increase must be carefully analyzed. The Prime Minister highlighted that, although the cost of living is rising, the room for maneuver to increase the minimum wage is limited, and decisions must be prudent to avoid affecting the economy. Consultations with social partners will follow the legal procedure, and a final decision will be made after these discussions.
