Nokian Tyres is in negotiations for staff adjustments, targeting approximately 1,700 white-collar positions globally, with possible layoffs of 80 permanent positions. Additionally, the company plans temporary layoffs for 650 employees in car and heavy tire production, which could last up to 90 days. These measures could be implemented by the end of 2026, and permanent positions could be affected by 2025. Nokian Tyres recently inaugurated the factory in Oradea, a 650 million euro investment, which will produce tires with zero CO2 emissions. The company has started deliveries of tires from this unit and launched the new Nokian Tyres Seasonproof 2 tire. The factory will have a maximum capacity of 6 million tires per year, with sales planned to start in 2025. Nokian Tyres benefits from a state aid of 100 million euros from Romania and has obtained a loan of 150 million euros from the European Investment Bank to support the development of sustainable production. This factory is considered a benchmark for the industry, aiming to use 50% renewable and recycled materials by 2030.
