Continental AG, a German manufacturer of automotive components and tires, is analyzing the possibility of reducing up to 1,500 jobs in its rubber and plastics products division, ContiTech. This comes in the context of previous layoffs, including 640 jobs affected in Romania, as well as 230 jobs from the ContiTech Original Equipment Solutions factory in Timișoara. The company has announced its intention to sell the ContiTech division to focus on tire production, aiming for annual savings of 150 million euros by 2028. Continental had previously planned to eliminate approximately 10,000 jobs globally, and the IGBCE union has criticized the new measures as a breach of trust in the restructuring process. In Romania, Continental remains a major employer, with about 20,000 employees.
