On Sunday, Iran and Turkey announced the initiation of work on a railway link that will connect the two countries, aiming to facilitate trade between Europe and Asia. This line, known in Iran as Marand-Cheshmeh Soraya, will be approximately 200 kilometers long and will cost around 1.6 billion dollars, with an estimated completion time of three to four years.
The Iranian authorities emphasized the importance of this project in the context of improving infrastructure and trade exchanges, which are essential for revitalizing the Iranian economy affected by international sanctions. The line will ensure a railway continuity between Iran and Turkey, facilitating the connection with the city of Aralik. The Iranian Minister of Transport highlighted that this link will contribute to the continuity of the railway network between China and Europe, underscoring the relevance of the Silk Roads in global trade.
