At the inauguration of the modernization works of Reactor 1 in Cernavodă, the Minister of Energy, Bogdan Ivan, emphasized the importance of the 3 billion euro investment, which will guarantee 30 years of environmentally friendly electricity. Ivan highlighted the contribution of the scientist Horia Hulubei to CANDU technology and proposed that one of the reactors be named after him. He also mentioned the energy challenges that Romania faces, stressing the need to seek alternative electricity production methods, especially through nuclear energy. This investment will pave the way for the future development of reactors 3 and 4, with the aim of transforming Romania from a net importer into an energy exporter.
