INS reports increases in wholesale and retail trade in the first eight months of 2025, but a decrease in August compared to the previous year.

The National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced that businesses in wholesale and retail trade, as well as the maintenance and repair of vehicles and motorcycles, increased in the first eight months of 2025, by 4.8% in gross series and 4.3% in adjusted series. The activities of vehicle maintenance and repair recorded a significant increase of 20.4%, while the trade in motorcycles and related parts grew by 13%.


In August 2025, the total turnover volume decreased by 1.5% compared to the same month of the previous year, influenced by declines in the trade of vehicle parts and accessories (-4.2%) and vehicles (-1.2%). However, the activities of vehicle maintenance and repair increased by 5%. Compared to July 2025, businesses in this sector decreased by 26.4% in August, with negative results in the trade of vehicles (-30.1%) and their maintenance (-27.9%).
