Fuel prices in Great Britain have reached a new high, exceeding 158.5p per liter, the highest level since December 2022, according to recent data. This increase comes after a period of volatility, with a peak of 158.3p on April 15, shortly after the onset of the conflict in the Middle East on February 28. Simon Williams, head of policy at RAC, warned that prices could rise even further, estimating that petrol could reach at least 160p per liter in the coming weeks, unless there is a significant drop in oil prices.
In contrast, the price of diesel has decreased, reaching 185.92p, but Williams emphasized that it should be even lower. The rise in pump prices has cost British drivers approximately £2.9 billion since the start of the conflict. In this context, it is estimated that Chancellor Rachel Reeves will abandon plans to increase fuel duty from September, maintaining the 5p per liter reduction until the end of August 2026.
