Cosmin Marinescu, the deputy governor of the BNR, stated that the decision of Fitch agency to reaffirm Romania's country rating is justified by the positive evolution of the main macroeconomic indicators.
Among the arguments cited are the reduction of the budget deficit by 1.65 percentage points of GDP in the first half of the year, estimates regarding the decrease in inflation, and economic growth prospects of over 2% in 2027, according to forecasts from the IMF and the European Commission.
Marinescu also emphasized the high level of international reserves, of nearly 75 billion euros, which ensure "coverage of short-term external debt," as well as "the solidity of the banking sector," with prudential indicators "above the European average."
The Fitch rating agency has reaffirmed Romania's sovereign rating at BBB-, with a negative outlook, keeping the country in the category of recommended investment states.
