Advisor to the governor of the BNR, Eugen Rădulescu discussed special pensions, highlighting that the issue is not only the amount of the pension but also the retirement age, which in Romania can be as low as 48 years.
He emphasizes that this situation creates a social gap, as some people work until they are 65 years old, while others enjoy pensions before the age of 50. Rădulescu warns that, in the future, the state pension system could become unsustainable, especially with the increasing number of retirees.
He also mentions that Romania pays higher interest rates than other countries with larger debts, due to a lack of confidence in the financial markets. Rădulescu underscores the need for reforms to reduce public debt and ensure the sustainability of future expenditures.
