The Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, stated that the European Investment Bank (EIB) remains a strategic partner for Romania, preparing several funding opportunities for infrastructure and energy projects. Participating in the EIB Governors' Council meeting in Luxembourg, Nazare emphasized the importance of the EIB in financing European projects related to competitiveness, economic security, and critical infrastructure, mentioning that the institution signed new funding agreements in 2025 amounting to approximately 100 million euros. Romania supports the continuation of this funding, considering the need for investments that exceed the national budget. In this regard, preparations are underway for the withdrawal of 100 million euros for the co-financing of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) for two railway projects, and in the second half of the year, a new tranche for the Sibiu-Pitești Highway could be drawn. Additionally, work is being done on funding for the Northern Beltway of Bucharest and the modernization of Reactor 1 at Cernavodă. Nazare will participate in European financial meetings, including the Eurogroup and ECOFIN, from June 11 to 12, 2026.
