Nicolae Daju, a Romanian from Verona, is among the victims of a major scandal affecting the Italian police. Two former agents, Alessandro Migliore and Loris Colpini, are accused of torture and humiliation of detained individuals, and the key evidence consists of images captured by surveillance cameras in the police station.
Prosecutors are seeking sentences of 7 years and 4 months for Migliore and 3 years and 10 months for Colpini. Daju was assaulted with tear gas and beaten after being stopped without reason. He reported that he was humiliated and abused in the police station, being treated inhumanely. The trial is nearing its end, and a second investigation targets another 16 police officers involved in similar acts, which could turn this case into one of the largest abuse scandals in the history of the Italian police.
