A Romanian woman from Italy is under investigation for fraud and theft, being accused of manipulating two pensioners from Appiano Gentile, aged 82 and 87, to move them to a nursing home in Sicily. The judicial authorities in Vizzini opened a criminal case after the elderly people were reported missing, and neighbors alerted the authorities.

The local deputy mayor noticed their absence and requested police intervention, which discovered that the pensioners had been transported to a care center. The Romanian woman, previously dismissed for suspicious behavior, promised them better care in the nursing home, but after leaving them there, she disappeared.

Investigations revealed suspicious withdrawals from the elderly people's accounts, and the carabinieri confirmed her route from northern Italy to Sicily through geolocation. The two pensioners wish to return home, and social services are working on a long-term assistance solution to ensure their safety.
