A 41-year-old Romanian man was detained in the city of Crotone, Italy, after authorities established that he had illegally returned to the country, violating a previously imposed expulsion measure. The man was identified during an inspection carried out by Crotone police as part of an operation to combat illegal immigration.
Checks by the Immigration Office showed that the Romanian man had numerous criminal convictions and had been expelled from Italy in December 2024. In 2023, the Crotone Court had replaced a prison sentence with immediate expulsion and a ban on returning to the country for six years.
In view of his record and the risk of evading the enforcement of the decisions, the prefect of Crotone issued a new expulsion order. At the same time, the authorities imposed an extended re-entry ban, valid for ten years.
The man was transferred to the Palazzo San Gervasio Detention Center for Repatriation, where he will remain until the completion of the procedures required to send him back to Romania.
