Two Romanians were taken to hospital on Thursday, October 29, 2026, after the car they were traveling in was involved in an accident and caught fire in Marchegg, Gänserndorf district, Lower Austria. The incident occurred at around 3:00 a.m.

According to Austrian police, an Italian driver traveling in the opposite direction suddenly swerved to avoid a roe deer. During the maneuver, his car struck the side of a vehicle driven by a 38-year-old Romanian. He lost control of the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to leave the road and crash into a tree.

A 39-year-old Romanian was also in the car. After the impact, the vehicle caught fire and was destroyed. The two occupants managed to get out on their own and initially tried to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher.

Firefighters responded to put out the blaze, which was declared extinguished at around 4:45 a.m. The two Romanians were taken to Hainburg Hospital for medical care. Police are continuing their investigation to establish all the circumstances of the accident.
