A 23-year-old Romanian man was injured on Thursday, October 15, 2026, in a workplace accident in a wooded area of the municipality of Gallizien, Austria. The incident occurred at around 2:00 p.m., during logging work carried out by two Romanian workers.
According to VK24, a 41-year-old colleague was operating a winch mounted on a forestry machine, while the victim was cutting down trees approximately 20 meters below the equipment. At one point, a log measuring about 50 centimeters in length and approximately 30 centimeters in diameter broke loose from the winch system and struck the young man.
His colleagues immediately called emergency services. Medical crews stabilized him at the scene, then transported him to the hospital in Klagenfurt for treatment and further examinations.
Forestry accidents involving Romanian workers are frequent in Austria’s Alpine regions because of the steep terrain and the risks associated with handling logs. The case in Gallizien is being investigated to establish all the circumstances.
