BYD intends to introduce intelligent driving technologies in Europe within the next 15 months, Stella Li, the company’s vice president, said during her first visit to Romania. The Chinese manufacturer is investing heavily in research and development for systems that could eventually enable cars to travel without driver intervention.

The company already has a team dedicated to developing autonomous taxis and is working with partners such as Nvidia and Uber to improve the driving experience. Stella Li explained that BYD currently uses the term “intelligent driving” because authorities do not yet allow these systems to be described as fully autonomous.

The expansion plan for the European market is part of BYD’s strategy to develop advanced vehicle technologies. In the long term, the company aims to reduce road accidents and improve safety for drivers and passengers.

According to Stella Li, more than two million people die in road accidents worldwide every year. The company believes that intelligent and autonomous driving systems could help reduce the number of victims.
