A 26-year-old Romanian was arrested on Friday evening in Mudersbach, Germany, following a routine traffic check. The police officers conducting checks in the area of the construction work on the B62 national road stopped the vehicle after the driver violated the transit ban.
Initially, the incident seemed like a simple case of a fine, but checks revealed that the Romanian was wanted internationally by Interpol for multiple fraud offenses, being accused by authorities in the United States. The police in Betzdorf stated that the discovery of the arrest warrant was the result of standard identity verification procedures.
After the arrest, the Romanian was taken to the police station, presented to a judge, and subsequently transferred to a detention center. German authorities have now begun the extradition process to the USA, while the police continue checks in the area to prevent violations of traffic restrictions.
