President Nicușor Dan revealed that he refused in 1999 the offer from former president Emil Constantinescu to become secretary of state for Romanians in the diaspora, wanting to remain in the field of mathematics. However, he believes it is essential to develop a special project for the diaspora, which would include a real-time map of Romanians abroad, highlighting the characteristics of each community.
Dan emphasizes the importance of conducting complex sociological studies to better understand the needs of this community, arguing that Romanians in the diaspora represent a valuable opportunity for Romania, having performance in a competitive international environment. He also mentioned that it is necessary to increase the number of consulates to provide real assistance to Romanians in the diaspora.
