A woman from Breb, Maramureș County, was fined 500 lei after her chickens wandered unsupervised into a neighbor’s yard, where they allegedly soiled the paving. The incident reportedly took place between October 2 and 6, 2026, and the report was issued by the Ocna Șugatag Police on October 7.
The fine can be paid at half the amount, namely 250 lei, within 15 days of the document being communicated. The woman’s husband, Viorel Marinca, says the fine was issued following a complaint from a neighbor who was disturbed by the birds roaming near the households.
The man says it is difficult to supervise chickens constantly on a rural homestead and believes such misunderstandings should be resolved between neighbors. “It’s not the amount that bothers me, but the fact that people think this way,” he told Gândul.
Viorel Marinca intends to challenge the report. He invoked the traditional character of the village of Breb, known for its homesteads and agricultural activities, where animals allowed to roam near homes are not an unusual occurrence.
