The City Hall of the municipality of Băilești, Dolj County, took back, using an excavator, waste illegally dumped by a local resident on the outskirts of the city. Administration employees loaded the garbage and tipped it over the fence into the yard of his property.

The images were published by the municipality on social media, accompanied by the message “We found the solution to the garbage! We’re taking it back.” The gesture was approved by some internet users, but numerous local residents criticized the way the City Hall intervened. They argued that the operation was carried out using taxpayers’ money and that the administration should have found a legal solution for disposing of the waste.

The controversy comes after Băilești City Hall announced, on October 13, that 83 people had been sanctioned since the beginning of the year for abandoning waste in unauthorized places. The total value of the fines reached 128,250 lei.

Local residents also complain about the lack of a suitable space for disposing of bulky waste and are asking the administration to resolve the garbage problem at the entrance to the city. The municipality has so far provided no details about the legal basis for the action.
