European Parliament member Victor Negrescu, about the EU-Mercosur agreement: "The agreement must protect Romanian farmers and European standards. Romania needs trade, but not at any price."

Victor Negrescu, Romanian MEP from PSD, expressed concerns regarding the EU–Mercosur trade agreement, acknowledging the emotions and debates generated by it. He emphasizes the need for fair international trade that respects European Union standards, thus protecting consumers and the environment. Negrescu discussed with European commissioners and leaders from other countries about improving the agreement, calling for additional guarantees and stricter controls for Mercosur products.

He also mentioned that if there had been more time, Romania could have obtained more favorable conditions. Negrescu calls for unity among pro-European politicians to support Romanian farmers and SMEs, advocating for a larger European budget for Romanian agriculture. He estimates an increase in Romania's agricultural package by nearly 13% during the period 2028–2034.
