The visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to Bucharest, scheduled for Monday, must lead to concrete decisions for Romania’s security and for European investments, argues Vice-President of the European Parliament and PSD MEP Victor Negrescu.
Ursula von der Leyen will meet with President Nicușor Dan and Prime Minister Luca Niculescu. According to Negrescu, the immediate priority is to operationalize the European Maritime Security Hub in the Black Sea, with a central role for Romania and, in particular, for Constanța.
The MEP says he supported the project through amendments to the European Union budget for 2026 and 2027. He calls for the initiative to move from political commitments to funding, a clear timetable, and concrete operational capabilities.
The discussions should also include the future European budget for the 2028–2034 period, as well as outstanding matters under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Negrescu says Romania needs substantial allocations for agriculture, cohesion, infrastructure, security, and local communities.
He also calls for delays under the NRRP to be recovered, payment requests to be finalized, and the loss of European funds to be avoided. Negotiations on the Union’s future budget are under way, and the MEP argues that Romania’s interests must be defended before the final decisions are made.
