PNL MP Raluca Turcan said Tuesday that the liberals will support Romania’s major projects even if they end up in opposition, should a government led by designated Prime Minister Luca Niculescu be installed. She warned that the PNL will closely monitor the future Executive’s activity and support important measures for the country, regardless of political calculations.
Turcan said the liberals will follow projects such as the SAFE program, the absorption of European funds and the drafting of the 2027 state budget. At the same time, she told the designated prime minister not to forget that, in her view, the PSD “is in opposition even when it is in government.”
The PNL MP’s criticism targets the way the Social Democrats allegedly approached the government led by Ilie Bolojan. Turcan claims that, after withdrawing their political support for that Executive, the PSD allegedly promised not to affect the SAFE program, but later challenged it before the Constitutional Court.
The liberal also accuses the PSD of blocking the pay law, which she describes as a milestone under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan worth 770 million euros. According to Turcan, Romania would have lost this money as a result of the delay in adopting the law.
Raluca Turcan said the PNL will not sign an agreement with the designated prime minister only to violate it later. She added that the liberals will scrutinize every expense of the future government, compliance with the deficit target, the realism of the 2027 budget and the continuation of reforms.
