PNL MP Raluca Turcan accuses PSD and AUR of blocking the pay law to the very end, saying that failure to adopt the legislation would have led to the loss of €770 million in European funds allocated to Romania through the NRRP. The statements were made amid political disputes over government reforms and the use of European funds.
Turcan claims that the two parties also challenged the SAFE program at the Constitutional Court, which she says includes funds earmarked for Romania’s defense. The liberal MP also criticizes them for challenging decisions adopted by the caretaker government, affecting financial support for adults with disabilities and measures to help young people enter the labor market.
In the same statement, Turcan accuses PSD and AUR of dividing up positions in public institutions, Parliament, as well as the public television and radio services. She says the Bolojan Government reduced the budget deficit from the highest level in the European Union to 7.9% of GDP, adopted the reform of magistrates’ pensions, and kept Romania away from default. According to the MP, during that period Romania received €13.27 billion through the NRRP, while budget revenues increased by 12%.
Raluca Turcan rejects an alliance between PNL, USR and UDMR, on the one hand, and PSD and AUR, on the other, and calls for reforms to continue. The government led by Ilie Bolojan was dismissed on May 5, 2026, after a no-confidence motion initiated by PSD, AUR and the PACE – Întâi România parliamentary group was adopted. The motion received 281 votes in favor, above the required threshold of 233.
