The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Romania announces temporary restrictions for the circulation of vehicles over 12 tons in Bulgaria, from December 24, 2025 - January 4, 2026. The restrictions apply on the Trakia and Struma highways, as well as on the Sofia-Dermantsi section of the Hemus highway. Exceptions are made for vehicles that carry public passenger transport and for those transporting dangerous goods, live animals, or perishable food products.
On December 30, 2025, the circulation of heavy vehicles will be suspended between 14:00 - 20:00, and on January 4, 2026, between 12:00 - 20:00, in the direction towards Sofia. Additionally, in the Blagoevgrad region, on December 24, 2025, reversible traffic will be introduced on road I-1/E-79. The MFA provides additional information about the toll payment regime, road conditions, and consular assistance for Romanian citizens in Bulgaria.
