Hungary: Border Police announces traffic restrictions for trucks weighing over 7.5 tonnes on October 23

The Romanian Border Police announce that, on Friday, October 23, 2026, traffic restrictions will be imposed in Hungary for heavy goods vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tons. The measure is being implemented on the occasion of Hungary’s Revolution Day and will be in effect from 07:00 to 23:00, Romanian time.

During this interval, drivers of the affected trucks will have to stop in specially designated parking areas and wait for the traffic ban on Hungary’s public roads to be lifted.

According to the notice sent to the Oradea Territorial Border Police Inspectorate by the Hungarian authorities, vehicles transporting live animals and perishable products are exempt. They will be allowed to travel during the restrictions.

The measure does not affect passenger traffic or the movement of cars, which will proceed under normal conditions. Border police officers recommend that carriers plan their routes and travel periods in advance to avoid delays and overcrowding in parking areas.
