CNAIR explains the reasons why traffic on A10 was not diverted to the opposite direction

Traffic on the A10 Sebeș – Turda highway has been stopped for two days between the Unirea and Turda junctions due to a landslide at km 66+300.

The director of CNAIR, Cristian Pistol, explained that the decision to move traffic to DN1, instead of diverting it to the opposite direction of the highway, was made for safety reasons, citing risks related to landslides. The Pro Infrastructura Association and former Minister of Transport, Cătălin Drulă, contest this measure, suggesting that diverting to the opposite direction of the highway would have been a better solution.

Pistol emphasized that moving traffic to the opposite direction could accelerate the collapse and create additional risks, including head-on collisions and blocking access for emergency crews. The repair work is estimated to take about three months and will be fully covered by the contractor. Pro Infrastructura warns that diverting to DN1 exposes drivers to a road full of curves and dangerous slopes.
