Road traffic is being diverted on Marshal Alexandru Averescu Boulevard in Bucharest after a section of the road surface collapsed along the route of a district heating main. The restrictions were introduced on Tuesday to allow repair work to be carried out.

According to the Traffic Brigade, the affected direction is from Ion Mihalache Boulevard toward Mărăști Boulevard. Vehicles are being temporarily directed onto the tram line until the intervention is completed.

The collapse occurred in the area of the underground hot-water pipes, and the authorities are inspecting and repairing the affected road surface. The traffic diversion was implemented to ensure the work is carried out safely and to prevent accidents.

Traffic police officers recommend that drivers proceed with caution, maintain a sufficient distance to brake safely, and comply with the temporary road signage. Drivers must also follow the instructions of police officers in the area. The restrictions will remain in place throughout the intervention.

,
Context: Bucharest has recently experienced further disruptions related to the district heating network and isolated traffic problems

Previously, a major failure was reported in Bucharest on the Berceni Main Line, with the rupture of an approximately 60-year-old district heating pipe leaving nearly 90% of consumers in Sector 4 without hot water for four days. The authorities convened an emergency meeting with representatives of Termoenergetica and ELCEN, while the interventions included shutting down and restarting certain thermal substations to supply the remaining sectors.

At the same time, the city also experienced episodes of traffic disruption caused by traffic-light malfunctions at approximately 35 intersections, where the lights operated in flashing-yellow mode, with the Traffic Brigade deploying crews to direct traffic.
