The United States Department of Defense has communicated that the reduction of military presence in Romania, through the withdrawal of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 101st Airborne Division, does not represent a withdrawal of America from Europe. This decision is seen as a positive sign of increasing European capability and responsibility in conventional defense.
The brigade, which has been deployed for a nine-month rotation in Romania, will not be replaced, but approximately one thousand American soldiers will remain stationed in the country. The Ministry of National Defense (MApN) emphasized that Romania has been informed about this resizing, which aligns with the new priorities of the American administration and the strengthening of NATO's presence on the Eastern Flank. This adjustment will not affect the security environment in Europe, with the U.S. maintaining a robust presence in the region.
