The Constanța Tribunal has decided to replace the preventive arrest of the suspended mayor of Mangalia, Cristian Radu, with house arrest, following accusations of bribery. The decision is not final and can be challenged at the Constanța Court of Appeal. Radu was placed in preventive arrest at the end of August, being accused of five offenses of bribery and money laundering.
DNA prosecutors claim that, between 2020 and 2025, Radu allegedly demanded and received 645,000 euros for issuing urban planning documents and other actions related to his position. He also allegedly received sums of money to allow commercial activities on the beach without penalties, as well as to facilitate the obtaining of construction permits. Investigators discovered that part of the money obtained illegally was concealed through the purchase of a hotel in the Cap Aurora resort.
