Valentin Ștefan, the general director of the Romanian Post, stated that the distribution of pensions represents a financial burden for the company, having high associated costs. Although the Post receives 60 million lei monthly from the Ministry of Labor for this service, a significant part of the amount returns to the state in the form of expenses for cash acquisition. Ștefan emphasized that the Post buys approximately 5% of the country's money supply monthly, which generates additional costs. He proposed organizing a tender for the distribution of pensions, stating that this could determine if the amount received is adequate.
Currently, nearly 4.5 million beneficiaries receive pensions and other assistance through the Romanian Post, and 40-45% of pensioners receive their pensions in cash. Ștefan mentioned that, in the event that the Post were to lose this service, it could be a positive thing for the company, considering that revenues from this sector represent a significant part of total expenses.
