The Bucharest Transport Company (STB) currently has 9,504 employees, and as part of an efficiency plan, 800 of them will be laid off. The President of the STB Transport Workers Union, Vasile Petrariu, announced that the procedure for voluntary departures began on July 22 and will end on July 27.

Those who choose to leave voluntarily will benefit from six severance salaries, with payments to be made in no more than two installments. STB will retain staff in deficit professions, and the general director will decide who can leave.

Approximately 200-250 employees are eligible for retirement, while the rest will be evaluated according to the social plan. The company is facing a shortage of vehicle drivers and needs to cover 93 million kilometers annually.

The union leader emphasized the need for better coordination between STB and TPBI to adapt traffic schedules to reality. The possible increase in public transport fares was also mentioned, highlighting the impact on passengers.
