The Bucharest Transport Company will begin handing out dismissal notices next week as part of the collective dismissal of 880 employees, including drivers and tram operators. The employees named will be summoned to their workplaces and will receive the official documents, along with explanations of the reasons behind the decision.
The measure is part of the restructuring plan implemented after STB entered insolvency proceedings and aims to restore the company’s financial health. The Bucharest Transport Workers’ Union was informed that the list of those targeted had been presented on Tuesday, following the notification sent to the Territorial Labour Inspectorate.
The provisional judicial administrator has announced a comprehensive review of the organizational structure, contracts, procurements and expenses. Fares, free travel, subsidies and measures to combat fare evasion are also under review, including through higher fines.
STB has approximately 10,000 employees and official debts of 1.5–1.6 billion lei, which the judicial administrator says could exceed 3 billion lei. The restructuring is necessary for the company to exit insolvency and maintain the public service delegation contract.
