On September 8, 2026, the Bucharest Tribunal admitted the Bucharest Transport Company’s (STB) request to open insolvency proceedings. The decision comes after the company accumulated debts of more than 3 billion lei, while its management and Bucharest City Hall say the measure is necessary to avoid bankruptcy and maintain public transport.
The court appointed a consortium consisting of EURO INSOL SPRL, TURMAC INSOLVENCY SPRL and CERES INSOLV SPRL as provisional judicial administrator. It must inventory STB’s assets, prepare the reports required by law and present a monthly update on the proceedings.
Creditors may register their claims for admission until October 23, 2026. The preliminary table of claims must be published by November 12, the final table by December 7, and the first general meeting of creditors is scheduled for November 17.
According to data presented by Mayor General Ciprian Ciucu, STB ended 2025 with debts of approximately 1.72 billion lei, of which nearly 1.49 billion represented obligations to ANAF, while around 402 million lei consisted of penalties. The request was filed after the Bucharest General Council approved the move. On August 18, the court had previously rejected the company’s request.
