The Ministry of Transport has issued a warning regarding a new attempt at fraud via SMS, targeting Romanian drivers. Scammers send alarming messages from unknown numbers, often with international prefixes, informing victims about alleged traffic rule violations. The messages threaten with penalties of 30% if an urgent payment is not made, providing a fake link that mimics the official payment site. The Ministry emphasizes that it does not send payment SMS messages and has no authority to fine drivers.
Messages requesting payments "by midnight" are a clear sign of fraud. Authorities recommend not accessing suspicious links, blocking the phone numbers, and informing relatives about these fraud attempts. In case someone falls victim, it is essential to contact the bank to block the card.
