The judges of the Bucharest Military Tribunal partially accepted the request of the lawyers of the Declic association, which represents the victims of the incidents in Victory Square in 2018, noting the lack of utility in re-hearing the majority of witnesses. This decision is seen as an opportunity to accelerate the process, considering the risk of the statute of limitations for the facts, which is approaching. The Tribunal decided not to re-hear witnesses Gabriela Firea, Liviu Dragnea, and Raed Arafat, but will summon two witnesses for a hearing scheduled for April 16, 2026.
Representatives of Declic welcomed the decision, emphasizing that it could lead to a quicker resolution in the August 10 case. Declic lawyers argued that hearing the remaining 373 witnesses on the list would not bring additional information, as there is already sufficient evidence from statements and video recordings. On August 10, 2018, gendarmes intervened brutally against the protesters, using grenades that caused serious injuries. The Tribunal's decision is not final and can be contested. The Declic community continues to support the victims, providing them with legal assistance throughout the process.
