Civic groups such as "Corruption Kills" and "Resistance" are organizing a protest on Monday evening in Victory Square in Bucharest, eight years after the demonstration on August 10, 2018, known as the "Diaspora protest".

Participants are demanding accountability for those responsible for the violence at that time and are criticizing the lengthy duration of judicial procedures in the August 10 Case, under conditions where the facts risk being statute-barred before the completion of the trial.

Protesters argue that the repression in 2018 has not been sanctioned and accuse the Romanian justice system of failing to establish the truth. They also demand transparency in identifying those responsible and are questioning who ordered the intervention of the gendarmerie forces.

The criminal case has had a complicated trajectory, and the statute of limitations will intervene in October 2026, which could lead to the case being closed without a verdict.

The protest is a reaction against a justice system that seems to favor those in power, leaving the victims without answers.
