The Romanian government will today send the draft law regarding the pensions of magistrates to the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) for approval, announced spokesperson Ioana Dogioiu. The draft stipulates that the pension will be 70% of the last net salary, similar to the previous version rejected by the Constitutional Court, but with an extended transition period of 15 years to reach the standard retirement age of 65 years.
Additionally, the amount of the service pension will be 55% of the average gross allowances from the last 60 months, with a cap of 70% of the last net allowance. Magistrates will be able to continue to retire early, but with penalties if they are not 65 years old. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan emphasized the importance of obtaining a quick opinion from the CSM to avoid financial losses from European funds. The previous law was declared unconstitutional because the government did not respect the 30-day deadline for the CSM's opinion.
