A government ordinance adopted to optimize spending in local administration has sparked controversy and severe criticism from mayors, who claim it blocks their activities. The document was postponed for a week after the Ministry of Justice requested additional time for analysis, and the mayors accused the government of not consulting them on the final version of the ordinance.

Mayors have pointed out that the provisions of the ordinance have led to the inability to carry out essential purchases, such as birth certificates and repair work on public institutions. Additionally, the risk of blocking the absorption of European funds due to restrictions imposed on feasibility studies has been highlighted. Criticism has also come from political leaders, including Sorin Grindeanu, who emphasized the negative impact of the ordinance on public services. Tensions between the government and local administrations remain high, and mayors are calling for prior consultation for any legislative changes that affect their activities.
