The Attorney General of Romania, Cristina Chiriac, announced that the Prosecutor's Office next to the High Court of Cassation and Justice rejects the draft law regarding the salary of personnel paid from public funds, which was considered by Nicușor Dan to have consensus in Parliament. The project is seen as a threat to the status of prosecutors, as it would diminish salary rights and essential financial guarantees for the independence of the judicial system.
The Superior Council of Magistracy also rejected the project. The Prosecutor's Office emphasizes that the proposed measures could lead to the blockage of the activity of higher courts and prosecutor's offices, demotivating staff and affecting the attractiveness of the profession for future law graduates. Attention is also drawn to the negative impact on prosecutors who will enter the system after the law is adopted, having lower salaries than their predecessors. The Prosecutor's Office requests the involvement of budget managers in discussions about the draft law, warning that its adoption in the current form could severely affect the functioning of the judicial system and the quality of justice.
