The High Court of Cassation and Justice requests the Parliament to respect the Constitution in the process of adopting the Salary Law.

The High Court of Cassation and Justice (ÎCCJ) has addressed a request to the leadership of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, asking that the procedure for adopting the Law on the remuneration of personnel paid from public funds strictly respect the Constitution.

This action was prompted by "serious constitutional issues" affecting the drafting of the bill.

ÎCCJ emphasized that there are "doubts" regarding the constitutional competence of some members of the Government, which raises questions about the validity of the legislative initiative. If Parliament does not remedy these deficiencies, ÎCCJ will refer the matter to the Constitutional Court of Romania.

Meanwhile, employees in healthcare and the financial sector have initiated general strikes, protesting against the new Salary Law, accusing the elimination of bonuses and major inequalities. The protest actions continue to escalate, affecting normal operations in over 400 medical units and generating demonstrations in front of Parliament.
