The Capital City Hall has been criticized for the inefficient management of the rehabilitation works of the Basarab Passage, imposing traffic restrictions without having a designated contractor. According to journalist Marius Comper's analysis, the information campaign started in June 2026, and the contract with the Bucharest Metropolitan Buildings Trust was signed on June 11.
Although the works were announced for June 20, the auction for the designation of the main contractor was published only on July 1. The traffic restrictions affected circulation, and the City Hall began procedures without the contractor having been designated yet.
The Basarab Passage, inaugurated in 2011, does not have the final reception signed, and the current administration estimates that its legalization could take until 2026, depending on the completion of the current works. This situation reflects a long-standing administrative problem, with litigations and misunderstandings between the City Hall and the builders.
