Ciprian Ciucu Announces the Reopening of Basarab Bridge After Nearly Three Months of Works

The Basarab Bridge in Bucharest will reopen to traffic on the night from Sunday to Monday, after nearly three months during which repair works affecting traffic were carried out. General Mayor Ciprian Ciucu announced that the main interventions have been completed, but work on the bridge will continue until the end of the year.

Work on the Basarab Overpass began on June 20, and road traffic has been restricted since June 29. To allow the works to be carried out, the overpass’s two ramps were closed alternately, and traffic was directed in both directions along the ramp that remained open.

At this stage, the roadway, waterproofing, expansion joints, and road markings were repaired. Cracks and concrete elements, the pillars, and the underside of the bridge were also repaired. The drainage systems, including those on the tram track, were cleaned and repaired, while the metal elements, curbs, and railings were painted.

By the end of the year, the rusted fences and soundproofing panels are to be replaced. The concrete elements that have not yet been treated will also be cleaned and protected, while the tram station will be rehabilitated, including the plexiglass, stairs, elevators, and escalators.

Acceptance of the works is expected at the beginning of next year.
