The Capital City Hall announced that the rehabilitation works of the Basarab Passage will begin on June 20, coinciding with the summer vacation, to minimize traffic discomfort. The passage, inaugurated in 2011, has reached an advanced state of degradation due to the lack of reception and maintenance.
The works will include the replacement of the metal parapet, the water collection system, the creation of a new asphalt carpet, cleaning of the surfaces, and repairs to the escalators. Mayor Ciprian Ciucu explained that the reception had not been carried out for 15 years because the documents were confiscated by the DNA.
The passage cost 240 million euros, and the maintenance was the responsibility of the contractor, who did not carry out the necessary works. The rehabilitation works will be carried out by the companies Astaldi and FCC, and the City Hall will announce traffic restrictions soon.
